Absent

2016, zwei Jahre nach der Annexion der Krim, reisten wir nach Kyjiw, um dort das Mural „Present“ zu realisieren. Jahre später hatten wir das große Glück, vom Projekt #wallsofvision eingeladen zu werden, in Berlin das Gegenstück dazu zu schaffen.

Wir nannten es „Absent“.

Initiiert und unterstützt von der @hansriegelstiftung ist das Mural all jenen Menschen gewidmet, die sich den Krieg nicht ausgesucht haben und dennoch geliebte Menschen durch ihn verloren haben.

Um die Verbindung zwischen beiden Arbeiten sichtbar zu machen, haben wir in Kyjiw eine Frau aus Berlin und in Berlin eine Frau aus Kyjiw gemalt – zwei Städte, zwei Biografien, verbunden durch Verlust, Nähe und Hoffnung.

In 2016, two years after the annexation of Crimea, we traveled to Kyiv to paint the mural „Present.“ Years later, we were honored to be invited by the #wallsofvision project to create its counterpart in Berlin.

We called it „Absent.“

Initiated and supported by @hansriegelstiftung, the mural is dedicated to all the people who never chose war but have lost someone they love because of it.

To strengthen the connection between both works, we painted a woman from Berlin in Kyiv, and a woman from Kyiv in Berlin—two cities, two lives, connected through distance, loss, and hope.
